In 2018, a 28-year-old from the Bronx who had been working as a bartender won one of the biggest upsets in modern politics. Months later, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez became the youngest woman ever sworn into Congress. Rebecca's portrait surrounds her with the language of resistance: handwritten notes from 1990s girl-punk zines, "I'm exercising my rights," a bold "DARE," and a reminder that "Revolution don't come easy, honey." A hawk overhead, a bee at work on a flower and an acorn ready to grow round out a portrait about speaking up and taking up space.
For the organizer, the first-time voter, the friend who ran for something, or anyone who has been told to wait their turn and didn't.
