Commission a Portrait

Some of my favorite pieces start with someone else's story. A commission is a portrait made just for you, in the same layered silkscreen and mixed-media style as my Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Maya Angelou portraits. It could be the person who shaped you, someone you love, or a public figure who means something to you.

It's a true collaboration. You bring the person and why they matter. I bring the composition, color and craft. We shape it together, and you'll see it take form before it's finished.

Who commissions a portrait

Collectors who want a one-of-a-kind piece, and people looking for a gift that will outlast the occasion: a portrait of a mother or grandmother, a mentor, a retiring partner, the founder of an organization, or a hero whose story you want on your wall.

How it works

Tell me about them.

Reach out through my Contact page and tell me who they are, why they matter to you, the size you have in mind, and any date you're working toward.

Let’s talk.

We'll talk by phone or email about personality, colors, and any words or symbols you'd like woven in. You'll send me a few favorite photos.

See the concept.

I'll share a concept sketch and color direction. Once you approve it, a 50% deposit reserves your place on my calendar.

The reveal.

I build the portrait in layers of silkscreen, paint and collage, and send you [a progress photo] along the way. You see the finished piece before it ships.
